Writing Exercise 1:
Argument Summary

Using the analysis of the disagreement between Lisa Turner’s “Playing with Our Food: Genetic Engineering and Irradiation” and the Council for Biotechnology Information’s “Why Biotech Labling Can Confuse Consumers” in Writing Arguments (44-45) as a model, write a brief (one page, 250-300 word) analysis of the sources of disagreement between Pankaj Ghemawat and Ken A. Mark’s “The Price is Right” (571-72) and the New York Times editors’ “The Wal-Martization of America” (572-73).

Note where the writers disagree about facts or the interpretation of facts and where they disagree about underlying beliefs. Analyze what such differences imply about the writers’ different values and assumptions.
