Textbooks

Required Text

The Complete Pelican Shakespeare
Stephen Orgel & A. R. Braunmuller, et al eds.

Alternate Texts

You will need a fully-annotated, one-volume Shakespeare for this class. I recommend The Complete Pelican Shakespeare, but you may substitute another edition with my approval. If your edition doesn’t have adequate footnotes, I won’t approve it. Editions that do meet my approval include the following:

The Norton Shakespeare
(3rd edition — 2015)
Stephen Greenblatt, et al, eds.
The Complete Works of Shakespeare
(7th edition — 2016)
David Bevington, ed.

William Shakespeare Complete Works
(Modern Library — 2007)
Jonathan Bate & Eric Rasmussen eds.
The Riverside Shakespeare
(2nd edition — 1996)
G. Blakemore Evans, et al eds.

Single-Volume Editions

You may find single-volume editors of the plays more practical for classroom use than a Complete Works edition. Here are the individual Pelican Shakespeare editions for the five plays we will read this semester.

Midsummer Night’s Dream
1 Henry IV
Twelfth Night

Othello
The Tempest
